Moniqa & Magic Unicorn

CHAPTER 5

FREE FALL

"That's probably enough experiences for you to digest in one night. Hop back on and I'll fly you home."

Magic sprang from the moon, and galloped toward Earth. Soon they entered Earth's atmosphere. Again there was that distinctive -ploop- sound.

"Magic, what was that sound? I heard it when we left Earth, too."

"That is the delicate membrane which holds the atmosphere around Earth, much like the the amniotic sack holds the fluid around a baby in its mother's woom."

"I thought the ozone did that."

"Ozone is the layer of molecules directly under the membrane. Inside the membrane you feel the effects of Earth's gravity. Outside it you feel the buoyancy of the void; the space between. Here, let me demonstrate. I will slow our molecular rate to nearly physical level. Can you feel the air rushing around us now instead of through?"

"Yes. My hair is blowing. I can feel wind on my face. I can even smell the ozone. It's like smelling the clean air beside a huge waterfalls."

"Perfect," Magic said. "Now, I'll take us back through the membrane."

-Ploop!- Moniqa began to float off Magic's back. She made a grab for his mane and threw herself into a spin over his head.

"Help, Magic, help me. I'm lost in space and I can't breathe. There's no air here."

"Relax, Moniqa. I'm with you always. And you don't need to breathe. You have no physical body. I said I was slowing our molecular osculation to nearly physical level. If you were walking around your house right now and someone saw you, you would appear as a ghost, a hologram, they could see right through you. So, go ahead and breathe. Take a deep breath right now. That action has a calming effect on your mind. Breathe.

"There. Feeling calmer now?" Moniqa nodded her head, which caused her to spinn around again. Magic laughed his deep thundering chuckle. "Just let go, Moniqa. It's just like swimming or flying, only you're lighter. Remember that for every action there is an equal and opposit reaction, and you'll be fine. One more thing, up is wherever your head is. Go play and get used to the feeling. You can't get hurt out here."

Moniqa released Magic's mane and floated away. Then kicking her feet she shot upward. Raising her hands outward from her side slowed her assent. Dropping her head to her chest caused her to summersalt over and over. To come out of the spin, she flipped over on her stomach and kicked her feet. Then continued kicking, and used her arms as wing rudders. Just the slightest wave of the fingers could change her direction. By the time Moniqa tired of her free-flying excursion, Earth was far below her and Magic was no where to be seen.

"Magic!" she called, "Magic, were are you?"

"I am with you always," came his gentle voice inside her head. And a nuzle with his muzel against her back sent her tumbling once again.

"Wo-o-o-a-a!" Moniqa yelled as she struggled to right herself. Afterwhile she succeeded. Slowly looking around, so as not to throw herself into another tailspin, Moniqa scanned the heavens for Magic. Finally she saw him gallowing and bucking across the face of the moon. She swam toward him.

"There you are, you rascle. I'll teach you to throw me into a tailspin!"

After a tiring game of tag in which Moniqa never did catch Magic until she was exausted. Magic came up under her. Moniqa grabbed his mane and pulled herself down to his back.

"Ah-h, take me home Magic."

"Your wish is my command." Magic dove toward Earth. -Ploop- they entered the atmosphere and fell, it seemed to Moniqa as the Earth rose up to meet them at an alarming rate. They slowed without ever seeming to as Magic drifted over the street lights, finally circling Moniqa's house. First landing in the back yard, then stepping through the bedroom wall. Moniqa slid from his back, her arms still wrapped around his muscular neck. Patting his mane, Moniqa burried her face in his cheek. She felt the whisper touch of his eyelashes brush over her own, butterfly-kisses. Moniqa giggles, stepped back and rubbed Magic's soft muzzle.

"Thanks for wonderful adventures."

Magic nickered.
